As chiropractors, we look to the spine for misalignments; however, these similar fixations can occur in the extremity joints. When chiropractors speak of an extremity, we are talking about the joints of the body that are outside the spinal joints. These joints include: ribs, shoulder and elbow, wrist and hand, hip, knee, ankle and foot, as well as the hands and toes.
Like spinal joint, extremities can have similar fixations and joint motion restrictions. Many related conditions may be chronic or acute and people have great relief from their extremity adjustments. Various conditions that we see are carpal tunnel syndrome, shoulder injuries, impingement syndromes, tennis or golfer elbow, bursitis, hip and knee problems.
Signs or possible symptoms of an extremity issue that can be helped by a chiropractor:
- Extremity pain or pain in the extremity joint
- Weakness in an extremity or joint
- Stiffness in the extremity
- Immobility of an extremity joint
- Numbness or tingling in an extremity
- Catching or locking of an extremity joint
Extremity evaluations and adjusting complements the spinal adjustment. Our goal at Vitality is to ensure that all spinal and extremity joints are in proper alignment and function optimally.
